Zero hours contracts
Jahad Rahman represented Martyn Reuby, who successfully established at an Employment Tribunal that he was an employee of Unite the Union, rather than a self employed tutor, as alleged by the union.
The successful ruling paves the way for Mr Reuby to bring a claim for whistleblowing. Mr Reuby claims that he was unfairly dismissed and disadvantaged at work because he blew the whistle about the use of ‘zero hours contracts’ at work.
The case was headline news and reported in many newspapers including the Daily Mail, Express, Sun and Evening Standard. Jahad Rahman was quoted widely in the press after taking on the first legal challenge against Unite regarding the use of zero hour contracts and denial of basic employment rights.
